LADY PIRATES TAKE HOME 6TH STRAIGHT NATIONAL SERVICE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN BY 72 POINTS – BRINGS HOME DIRECTOR’S TROPHY
The Granbury MCJROTC Rifle Team shot on their home in the 2023 National Marine Corps Service Championships rather than travel to Anniston, Alabama due to the ice storm that blanked the DFW area this past week. Though the team was looking forward to competing at the CMP South Range, nevertheless they came to their home range with the same goal: A 6th straight Service Championships win.
On the first day of competition, Caroline Martin led the team with a 595 -49x score. Sunnee Schumann followed her with a season high score of 590 -41x. Julia Czernik contributed a 584 -37x to the team score and Ashton Arlington rounded out the Team 1 scoring with a 580 -33x. Team 1 shot an aggregate score of 2346 -160x to take the lead early in the competition.
Team 2 was led by Kameron Wells, who shot a stellar score of 588 -39x, on the first day. Following her was Kennedy Wells, who fired a 581 -35x. Viola Allen contributed a 578 -31x to the team score, and Cadince mcgrath rounded out the team scoring with a 575 -24x.
The Alternate team also had a great first day. Ainsley Milligan and Caylynn Price tied on the first day each with a 558, but Milligan took the lead over Price by X count. Mataya Turner rounded out the team score with a 557 -17x.
Going into Day 2 the team was focused on winning. The entire team had a score improvement. Team 1 had a significant increase in total points. Caroline Martin led the team again with a 599 -55x which broke her own Marine Corps individual 3x20 National Record of 597 -51x. Following her was Sunnee Schumann who shot another season high of 591 -37x. Ashton Alrington came back on Day 2 to shoot a strong score of 587 -39x. Julia Czernik rounded out the team scoring on Day 2 with a 587 -38x.
Team 2 also had a good day on the range. They were led by Kennedy Wells who fired a 584 -36x. Karmeron Wells followed her with a 582 -33x. Viola Allen improved as well, posting a 579 -36x. Cadince mcgrath rounded out the team scoring with a 574 -27x.
The Alternate team consisted of the scores 575 -28x, 556 -26x, and 552 -24x from Ainsley Milligan, Caylynn Price, and Mataya Turner, respectively.
Along with the Marine Corps 3x20 individual record, Caroline Martin also broke the Marine Corps 20 Shots Standing Record, which was established 10 years ago in the 2013 Marine Corps Service Championships, with a score of 199 -18x.
Granbury MCJROTC swept the podium with Martin taking 1st, Schumann in 2nd, and Kameron Wells in 3rd. Team 1 took 1st place on the podium and received the Director’s Cup with a 4713 score, and Team 2 took 3rd place with a 4641 score.
Granbury Team 1 and 2 Qualified to compete at the JROTC National Championships in March at the CMP North Range - Camp Perry OH and will defend their national title with the intend in being the only school in the history to achieve six National Championships.
The Pirates are back on the range this week shooting in the CMP Regional Qualifier match.
